Built up Area: 1870 sq.ft

The clients had several complaints regarding the current floor plan that included the size of the spaces and their connectivity such as small size of the master bedroom having attached toilet without bathroom, lack of wardrobe space that created disturbance in the usage pattern. User had to use one corner of the floor for bathing and another part of the residence was being used for accessing the bedroom and clothes.

A through inspection and study of the existing site revealed many major issues with the current layout of the dwelling space such as rhombus shape of the property constructed over rhombus structural grid, accordingly formed acute angled walls for all the spaces resulting in misfit of the furnishings and unused corners making the smaller rooms even smaller functionally and visually, multiple walls creating multiple small spaces and very low ceiling height. Apart from them, visually gaudi and bulky furniture, low false ceiling, direct visibility of the kitchen and dining from entrance, no walls for tv or wardrobe, presence of linear unfunctional shaft, unharmonized visual elements made the spaces look congested.

The challenge was to replan the residence keeping the structural grid, shaft and other service elements intact. The new floor plan rectified the rhombus shape of spaces incorporating larger sized bedroom attached with bathroom and walkthrough wardrobe, resolving the serious storage problem by adding wardrobes, resizing the kitchen and connecting utility balcony with kitchen and bedroom.

Design solutions aimed anthropometrically correct elements centering the user's needs. The unsynchronized and congested are now transformed into simplified and open space inviting natural light.

Client’s inclination for luxury and sophistication led to minimalistic design reflecting contemporary luxury using subtle colours inspired from Scandinavian colour palette. the golden elements and brass inlay in the flooring induce a sense of luxury in the spaces. Use of natural materials such as white marble for flooring, walnut veneer finishes on the surfaces and welcoming natural light creates comforting and calming effect.

The less deeper and minimal false ceiling, fluted wall panels and vertical design elements for instance profile lights, tv unit shelf, fittings and accessories create illusion of height into the space, simple geometric forms create a sense of bigger and open space that overall enhance the volumetric feel of the interiors.

Utilizations of maximum spaces with simple geometry and storages and concealed shaft merge neatly with the wall paneling. The partition between living and dining spaces separate them functionally while maintaining open character of the areas. Moreover, reclamation of the old materials such as wood works, doors and fittings act as cost saving agents in the project, plants add a natural vibe to the indoors. Amalgamation of functional solutions and aesthetic pleasure brings the desired comfort to the indoors.
